Designing a Tech-Financial Holding from Scratch

Intro

Corporación Cápsula set out to be a tech-financial holding company before it had a finished product, a settled name feel, or hardware ready to show anyone. My job was to give a company that existed mostly as an idea something people could actually see, touch, and trust.

Building Structure Through Design

I led a team of two graphic designers and one UX/UI designer, and my own scope covered nearly every surface the company touched: brand identity, web, pitch decks, event presence, merchandise, and — because of my industrial design background — physical product design. Few projects let me use that background directly; this one needed it, because part of the holding's business involved mining hardware that had to be physically redesigned, not just branded. Underneath all of it, my role was fundamentally organizational — building structure through design, documentation, and a coherent brand identity, at a company that had very little of either when I started. That same industrial design background also meant I modeled every project stage in 3D and produced rendered videos of each one — the clearest way to make a complex, multi-stage business tangible for investors who weren't going to read a technical spec.

Fundable, Not Conceptual

The real challenge was building believable, fundable infrastructure from zero, on every front at once. The business model was vertically integrated: renewable energy production feeding a Bitcoin mining operation, feeding into a fintech layer downstream. Investors needed to see that each layer was real, not conceptual, which meant producing an actual working MVP, not just a deck — a shipping-container mining site engineered to run roughly 30 ASIC miners on about 100,000 kWh of projected output, built and tested in a free trade zone.

On top of that, we were mid-negotiation with the Province of San Juan for land to build a second, much larger site — one designed to run on solar and, eventually, geothermal energy.

From Typography to Liquid Cooling

Brand and web moved together — identity, color, typography, and the website built to reflect all of it at once, since there wasn't time for one to wait on the other. Pitch decks and event materials were built directly from that same system so nothing had to be improvised close to the deadline. As the brand got used across more surfaces, I kept going back to correct and calibrate its visual elements — color values, proportions, logo usage — so it held up consistently everywhere it appeared, not just in the original files.

The hardware redesign ran as its own track: reverse-engineering the disassembled cases, understanding the liquid cooling requirements, and adapting the enclosure design without access to the original manufacturer specs — closer to industrial design problem-solving than to graphic design. In parallel, with no dedicated team or existing assets in place for the fundraising effort, I took the initiative to lead the creation of all technical documentation and brand assets needed for investor-facing pitch decks, working under extremely tight deadlines — work that proved decisive in the company being able to present its case and secure its financial footing.

The Outcome

The company delivered a complete brand, a working MVP — a shipping-container mining site engineered for roughly 30 ASIC miners — redesigned hardware ready for liquid cooling, and a signed land contract with the Province of San Juan for a second, larger site planned around solar and geothermal energy, presenting the work publicly at Virtuality San Juan 2022 along the way. Shortly after, the holding pivoted — Corporación Cápsula became GOAT, and the fintech layer became the entire focus.

Reflection

At Cápsula it became clear that brand and hardware are the same discipline when a company is young enough — both are just different ways of answering "can I trust this?". Being able to move between a pitch deck and a mining rig cabinet in the same week turned out to be exactly what the project needed. It also made plain that design work at an early-stage company is rarely only design: when there's no dedicated team for something urgent, like fundraising documentation, you end up doing whatever the company needs most at that moment.
